About the Artist
Sausalito artist Juline Beier has been working in various forms of fiber art for many years but it wasn’t until she attended classes at College of Marin that she turned her interest to fiber sculpture. Her wall sculptures, which have received critical recognition, are composed primarily by machine-stitching thread onto water-soluble film to create the fragile webs which she then layers or alters by adding other materials. She finds inspiration from diverse sources that range from popular culture to politics to functional folk art to shapes that seem to appear out of nowhere. Layers of shadow, texture and materials invite the viewer to look deeper on different levels. Juline is also applying many of these concepts in her creation of one-of-a-kind flax fiber bowls whose shapes are created by molding fibers over hand crafted forms.
Juline is a member of Fiber Dimensions, Plexus Art Group, Surface Design Association, American Craft Council, Marin Arts Council and the Ampersand Critique Group.
