Paintings - I get excited when I see the vitality... sensual thing in itself, and hear the muted yet powerful sound which I seek in art.” Mi Jung’s approach to art uses the process Western painting which consists of coating, covering color with color, scratching, and erasing, all in harmony with characteristic features of Oriental painting, such as spreading, abbreviating, and brushing calligraphic stokes. She builds up complex layers of oil painting to evoke the flesh of the real and stir a sense of internal abundance. Colors, textures, lines,... birth a life of their own; laughing and crying, strong and vulnerable, order and disorder... tracing love, pain, passion.... While her work can be described as abstract expressionism, there is a traditional spirit hidden in the contemporary sentiments of her painting. My paintings breath my memory, pleasure, sorrow ---- self. They remind me who I am and can be as I uncover myself, look for my layers and seek for something to hold on to.
