Kim Lipkin

Kim Lipkin is an accomplished painter who has over 40 years of experience with acrylics. She began painting in high school and further pursued her passion at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She graduated with a BFA in painting and functional pottery as well as a credential in Art Education.

Kim moved to California after college and has called the Bay Area her home ever since. She taught  art and ceramics at Piedmont Middle School for 20 years. She resides in Piedmont with her husband and is the mother of two sons who also live in the Bay Area. 

About my work:

I have never been attracted to Realism because it is too limiting for my own particular style of art and sensibility.  My paintings are vibrant, filled with color, and loose. I don’t enjoy getting bogged down with rules based on how something is meant to look.  My work is very cheerful and fresh, and regardless of how much I try, I always come back to my favorite subject- flowers. What I love about my paintings is that I am surprised at the end result every time. I approach each blank canvas with a specific idea in mind and my finished product is always a bit unexpected! Finally, I use varying shades of pink in a lot of my work, especially a skip-trail around the edges of my compositions…I simply cannot help myself.
