Katie Poterala
Katie's signature designs combine the opulence of faceted stones and precious metals with provocative surfaces and textures that mimic the spontaneity found in natural growth and oxidation processes.
Katie Poterala currently lives and maintains a studio in her charming native home, Greenville, South Carolina, where she is surrounded by influential textures, forms, places, and adventures.
Katie's infatuations with meaning, value, history, and the natural world are a driving force in how she views the world and influences why and how she creates. Jewelry was always an object of fascination, even at a young age, although it took until about mid-graduate school for Katie to realize she was intended to create contemporary jewelry and objects that would transcend generations. Her ongoing observations of the physical world, specifically the tactile, fragile, imperfect objects found in nature influence both her experience and her designs.
Her bridal line is an authentic reinterpretation of those objects that are observed but are not lasting, often reminding the wearer of places and times that are part of their own personal experience and travels.
Katie's pieces circumvent the status quo and disregard all that is 'trendy', demonstrating that jewelry and objects can be more than just commodities: they offer intimate, tactile, visceral experiences that can be shared for generations. They transcend the fast-paced, disposable world we live in and offer a place of quiet contemplation—a much-needed escape from reality.
