Margaret Nowak Dobos

"Inspired by an artistic and architectural appreciation for industrial components, I utilize materials considered urban and common, such as aluminum, stainless steel, metal, resin, and rubber, all of which are re purposed, recycled or up-cycled. My inspiration comes from the simplicity and flexibility of the materials. I create jewelry with pieces of common hardware, which speaks to my architectural design aesthetic. With the ambition of artistic appeal, I am attracted to these materials by their ergonomic perfection, and I enjoy manipulating the materials into architectural and geometric forms that progressively assemble into wearable jewelry that retains the qualities of durability. In doing so, I attempt to coalesce my aesthetic interest and formal training as an architect with my concern and interest in sustainable design."    Margaret Nowak Dobos

2014 International Eco Arts Award Winner, Margaret Nowak Dobos received her Bachelor of Architecture from Louisiana State University. She has been a designer and artist for the past 25 years. As an avid collector of avant-garde international clothing, she was inspired to create a collection of jewelry that reflected the same architectural principles of design, merging timelessness and contemporary relevance. The materials used are considered common and urban, but re purposed and recycled they are transformed into wearable art.
